The world is rapidly changing. Together, girls can shape what that world looks like.

Changemakers Camps is a summer institute that brings together girls to collaborate on interdisciplinary real-world projects in an exploratory space. Centered around interdisciplinary, real-world projects, Changemakers Camps offers four innovative sessions from June to August. Camps are open to girls entering grades 5-9.  Our new League of Extraordinary Dancers camp is open to girls entering grades 4-9.

Over the course of the summer, girls will roll up their sleeves, get messy, and think creatively as they work to bring about positive change and explore topics such as the arts, performance, engineering, and more.

How It Works

Four different Camps are offered throughout the summer. Each Camp focuses on a specific project and runs Monday through Friday for either one or two weeks. Please note that by registering for one Camp, participants are committing to all days of that Camp. Participants can register for any number of Camps. Each Camp consists of three core elements that will guide participants through the collaborative project:

List of 3 items.

  • Changemaking

Changemaking is the process of working to improve the environment around you through collaboration, communication, and connection.

This element will address four essential questions: What and who is a changemaker? When does change need to happen and why? What kind of change is possible? How do we create change together?
  • Projects

Each camp will culminate in a final project ranging from a physical product to a concluding performance. Each project will challenge participants to utilize the steps of the design-thinking process as they work together to come up with an innovative real-world solution: research and exploration; reflection and processing; planning and design; implementation; closing reflection and sharing.
  • Exploration

Changemakers Camps build upon a foundation of exploration and curiosity.  Participants will begin by looking inward to identify their unique passions, skills, and values and then shift their focus to determine how they contribute to the larger group and community.

Through thoughtful observation, critical thinking, and engaged learning, participants will gain confidence in their own skills while also building friendships through shared goals.

Why Mixed Ages: Mentorship Matters

Role models and mentors help support girls as they shift their perceptions about leadership and tap into their potential as leaders. Changemakers Camps intentionally brings together teams of mixed-age girls to collaborate within an environment representative of the diversity of experiences, skills, abilities, and perspectives. This mixed age group is meant to provide younger girls with an opportunity to learn alongside teen girls who model what female leadership can look like. When girls have models of success, they thrive.

Community Partners

Each camp will be enriched through the insight of community partners and their leadership in their field. Participants will engage in activities guided by our community partners and the Changemakers Camps lead instructor. Efforts will be made to provide transportation for students from Ellis to the excursion sites and back; however, families may be required to drop off at 9:00 a.m. and pick up at 3:00 p.m. at the excursion site. Registrants will be provided with additional details about plans for off-site excursions ahead of the start of each Camp.
